Everyone experiences life

from inside a body.

Everyone knows how it feels to be judged,

based on appearance.

Everyone knows that there is

something unfair about how

they are seen from the outside,

versus

who they truly are on the inside.

We judge others, and sometimes

we judge our own appearance with

the most severe harshness and cruelty.

Even those who are considered

great beauties in our culture

may feel that they are treated

as valuable objects, as "its",

instead of as humans.

Thus, we all can appreciate

the injustice of any form of

appearance-based judging, as well as

stereotyping, racism, and all sorts of bias.

Imagine a world in which everyone's

appearance, abilities, gender,

orientation, culture, ethnicity, etc.

were valued, 'as-is', in which each of us

felt intrinsically worthy and safe.

Our personal longing for such a world

is a means to bridging great divides,

a key to compassion for others,

even compassion for ourselves--

particularly when,

perhaps through aging or illness, we do not see

a familiar image in the mirror.
